This MSHA Mining Training package contains 15 courses, including the required 8 hours of MSHA Part 46 compliancy training. Whether you are a surface miner or surface miner contractor, start your new job the safe way. MSHA Part 46 regulations require new miners to complete 24 hours of training within 90 days of their hire date. Four hours of this training must be completed before beginning work at the mine.

Upon completion of each individual module, students will be able to access a certificate of completion of their mine safety training course. The 5000-23 Training form is used to record and document successful completion of the course. Generally, the person signing the form is the mine operator or a person acting on behalf of the operator. For example, a company safety official, a trainer employed or contracted by the operator, or a cooperative instructor (such as a state grantee).

Chemicals in the mining industry pose a range of hazards to exposed miners, from mild health effects to death. This online course covers the ways to recognize and avoid chemical hazards present at a working mine. Topics discussed are: defining what a chemical hazard is, discussing the requirements of a HazCom program, and identifying the basic steps of an Emergency Spill Response Plan. This online course explains procedures to follow during an emergency situation, including warning signals, evacuations, and reporting, as well as specific procedures to follow during fires. Based on: 30 CFR Part 46.5.b.3.

This online course provides an overview of environmental hazards common to surface mines. The student will also learn how to identify and avoid hazards associated with environmental hazards: dangerous weather conditions, airborne particulates and fumes, unsafe ground conditions, and bodies of water near industrial processes. This online course discusses how to recognize and avoid hazards associated with mobile equipment and stationary machinery on the job site. This course will also prepare the learner to recognize and avoid the following hazards: mobile equipment hazards related to traffic patterns, blind spots, and pinch points, stationary equipment hazards produced by moving machine parts, insufficient guarding, and ejected material. This online course identifies the different types of escape respirators, including self-contained self-rescuers (SCSRs), their purpose, how to use them, and how to care for them. Based on: 30 CFR Part 46.5.c.1.

This online course provides an introduction to first aid for common injuries and illnesses that do not require calling 9-1-1, with some exceptions identified. The learner will be introduced to the symptoms of and the steps of providing first aid for: concussions, injuries to the eyes, burns, fractured and dislocated bones, bites, and environmental injuries such as heatstroke, hypothermia, and dehydration. This online course explains how to recognize symptoms and provide first aid in various life-threatening emergency situations, including cardiac emergencies (other than cardiac arrest – which is covered in the First Steps in All First Aid Situations course), shock, stroke, poisoning, and others. This online course explains the importance of calling 9-1-1 in an emergency situation, the first five things a person should do when giving first aid in any emergency situation, how to perform artificial respiration and CPR, and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
